I just made my first shirt and i am STUNNED. I cannot believe it. a new world has opened up. everything is possible my actual rec for getting started if you’re overwhelmed would be to take a class. I made an easy apron and had the teacher walk me through the steps + following the pattern. and then I had the confidence to go crazy mode on my own

My friend Bri showed me the ropes today and I cropped this shirt myself, like, that’s powerful baby look at that clean hem!

I am taking an Intro to Sewing class every Sunday and it is a supremely humbling experience. The first week we learned how to make a scrunchie. Yesterday we made an elastic-waist skirt (Mean Girlsā„¢ļø fabric). I am not good at any part of this and have to get over my perfectionist mindset. Showing up every week and being humbled before the great sewing machine has been totally inspiring. So much so, that I’ve ordered a refurbished sewing machine to keep practicing at home (and eventually I’ll be making / mending / hemming things of my own).

Have never learned and the initial learning of the basics is seeming scary šŸ¤’ but I keep seeing things and thinking that as an unemployed student I rly need to be making not buying things. also fun and customisable! The seamstresses in my life have so much fun 🤩

Was inspired by title cards in an almodovar movie a year ago and spent almost that amount of time getting supplies, creating the photo emulsions, developing a screen, and then making actual prints…. ive only got these 4 little guys to show for it right now but I’m so proud of myself and I recommend it as a hobby!! Having the time oml in my tiny apt kitchen
