Splurge, it’s worth it. (If you’re a business owner, use Apple’s business department for discounts & special financing offers and get those tax deductions)

@LUCIUS Yeah talk about a game changing product. I genuinely think all the M chips will stay usable & comparable to whatever comes next for the foreseeable future. I can see myself keeping this one for +5 years without any issue.

@LUCIUS I also got the m4 max and i’m confident it‘ll keep me going for a decade. previous two MBP both lasted 8 years (but were very frustrating to use in their later years.)

@RIOTGRRRL M3 is by far the biggest leap from its predecessor and if I‘m mad that I couldn’t find a new one spec‘ed the way I needed ☹️ could have saved some $$$$$$$. Granted I jumped from the intel chip so anything felt like a huge upgrade.

@RIOTGRRRL and it’ll last for YEARS. Honestly I abuse my computers and if the intel chip one from 2019 lasted until this year? We probably have 6-7 years of use on these until they die. We’re actually SAVING money long term.

My bank account audibly screamed when I swiped my card but it's been such a relief. The last computer I bought was a 2016 MacBook Pro that's been required to be plugged in at all times to do anything more taxing than editing a photo, which is frustrating for a video editor to put it lightly. Now that I have a tool I can rely on, I have so much more peace of mind.

They’ve already moved onto the M2 now which is even faster. I got a Pro last year for some video editing, and these new chips are faaaaaast. The MacRumors site is a helpful guide too and tracks Apple’s release cycles. If you’re able to hold out a little while longer, all of the Macs are listed as ‘Don’t Buy’ because new versions are probably coming soon. The price usually stays the same with new version releases, so you’d be getting more for your dollahh

Based on your described workload, this configuration would more than accommodate you. RAM being the most important spec. And if you need it now, get it now. The M2 is great. You will not notice much benefit holding out for the M3. Your bigger decision is screen size. Can you get by with 13inches or do you need the extra real estate of 15inches? If you can get by with a smaller screen size, and you want to avoid dongle town, you could consider the the baseline M3 MacBook Pro (you do not need a pro or max chip) with 24GB RAM and 1TB storage.

I feel like there’s a special connectivity on this app that I haven’t felt in a long time, maybe since early 2010’s tumblr. The fact that you can’t promote yourself like IG is wonderful. The fact that there isn’t mass video content like Tik Tok is great. It’s not this monetized / paid sponsorship app. People are here because they want to be a part of something with nothing to gain besides friendship. Seeing the URL -> IRL meetups warms my heart so much (waiting for an NYC or Brooklyn meetup). Thanks for your participation on this niche little app. I smile reading all the recs and all the comments and all the asks. Hope we’ll all be here for a long time.

florinegrassenhopper riotgrrrl brendanooooo slowdazzle buck_mcgraw and indianjones — we did it. Not only did we successfully meet for drinks, but we also schemed the hostile takeover of this app from tyler tonight. In all seriousness — weird that an app I downloaded in April would make genuinely want to drive back into Brooklyn during end of day traffic for a happy hour. Great app filled with great people.

I think a life rule for me is to surround myself with people who know more / are smarter / are cooler than me and just absorb their aura by listening / observing them. It’s made me the incredibly smart / cool person you all know and love. I just never thought I’d feel the same way about URL friends. I’m constantly listening to the songs I see posted here, reading the articles, subbing to newsletters, and googling topics that get tossed onto the feed. It’s nice to know you can become a more rounded person by just absorbing what your mutuals post on here. I’m going to sit on my couch, have a cocktail and digest my lovely feed. Happy Sunday!
