God, do I love when companies promote from within. I'm in the process of moving up into a new department (logistics -> system engineer) and I'm so excited. I'm just beginning "training" and was already given a pretty substantial raise. i'm already pretty well versed in a lot of it, since i've worked here like 6 years and there's decent departmental overlap, so it should be a pretty smooth transition.
I've never understood why companies are so eager to look outside of their current pool of employees when a position opens up (I completely understand why they do this.) I much prefer when companies do this, rather than hiring someone who doesn't know anyone or anything about how things work when there's a current employee that could move up. it makes so much more send. plus, it looks really good on your resume!
