In high school a girl I liked recommended their music, and I pretended to like them in hopes she might take an interest in me, but I'm sure she saw right through it. I confessed I didn't actually like the band and we never spoke much after that. Flash forward I am in college and for some reason, the band found me again, and I have been unable to put them down for about 3 months now. It's gotten to the point where I cannot get into my car without immediately queuing an album of theirs, and my friends are beginning to give me shit for it (which is totally fair). My favorite tracks atm (in no particula order) go as follows:
- menswear - settle down - give yourself a try - she's American - happiness
I know the band gets a bad rep because the lead bloke is a piece of shit, but the rhythms and melodies are too much to ignore for me so I find myself humming and tapping my feet incessantly throughout the day to all of their songs.
Now I'm not the first man, nor will I be the last, to discover this band and think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread (well, self-titled certainly is), but while I am having my time with them, i will enjoy them to the fullest.
I'd like to Write more about this band, as I feel like I have a lot to say about them, just not at this very moment. It is 4:20 in the A.M., I have my stupid busboy job in about 8 hours and it's going to be dreadful as I'll have to wake up and be a person. Oh well.

They have an addicting quality to their music, and with each album sounding different it feels like you can just only listen to them and not be phased. Source: they were my top artist last year 🫣

@EDOG seriously! self titled sounds nothing like iliwys, and inquiry sounds vaguely like notes, and then being funny is just a whole nother league! it really feels like I can just pick an album depending on the day and roll with it. its the first time I've felt so in love with a band fully. yet I feel ashamed to share that with other ppl 😅

Okayyy hello another one of my fav songs!! I am trying to be more purposeful with my reviews from here on out.. I got recommended this song through le algorithm. In like 2022, I started listening to more shoegaze, dream pop, indie rock, idk what ever this genre is (genre is marketing tool anyways). So I'm glad this song made it into my feed. 2020-2023 worse yrs ever… I got to listen to music all day at my office job, so I found a lot of good music. I listen to sad music when I'm sad, and I was realyyy sad 🤣Crazy Town made me happy:) Definitely a feel good song for me, it never gets old! I fuck with Velocity Girl 💯💯I love that around this time in the 90s small bands were getting picked up by college radio stations (which ppl should listen to more often) Sub Pop was also in its prime, and Velocity Girl got picked up by them. The album that this song is on, Copacetic, is spectacular and was recorded in less than a week!!! P good for a debut alb 👍🏻In most songs it's the guitar that really gets me before the vocals or anything else. I like that the guitar sounds like “clean” shoegaze. Its sounds so epic to me the melody is also catchy and simple yet it gets the job done👍🏻Her vocals are so soft and sweet 🕊️its also easy for me to sing in the car (bad singer) Can’t help the urge to jump up and down and go crazyyyyyy while listening😝Brings me joy<3 Honestly thats all I got for this review it just sounds awesome nothing specific..🤪Album art also goes crazyyy fuzzy colors and genius text placement?... I like😎Also classic one girl in a band of boys

Phony ppl is one of those bands that can only be described as anointed. A four piece collective whose limitless melodies and prescient lyrics feel extraterrestrial, they're a band whose music resonates with me on a higher frequency. 2025 marks the 10th anniversary of their album, Yesterday's Tomorrow: the release that made me fall in love with them in the first place. It's fitting to love a project just as much today as when I heard it a decade ago, the music animated around that very truth: time is circular—yesterday is tomorrow is today.
Even though the group vibrates on a frequency so high, it's like they're from another world—they're as Brooklyn as it gets. I once met the group's frontman, Elbie Thrie, on the street in Crown Heights. It felt like divine intervention. I had just gotten my heart broken for the hundredth time by the same guy (a guy who, btw, had put me on to their bandcamp project Phonyland). What were the chances of meeting the musician who had penned so many songs that revolved around right person, wrong time? I mustered enough courage to let him know what the music meant to me, to ask him if he got stopped in public a lot, how it all felt. He was as disarming in person as he was on stage. I'd see Elbie again, along with the rest of the band, at their show at the turn of the new year in 2022. They'd indulged the crowd with a few tracks from YT. Maybe it was the shrooms I was on, but I swear when they performed HelGa., Elbie looked directly into my eyes and sang it straight to me. It was an experience that later inspired one of the first personal essays I ever published.
There are dozens of other significant moments I've lived with Yesterday's Tomorrow. Its tracks have held me down through heartbreak and longing, and then given me the courage I needed to take a chance on joy again. Tonight, they play the first of three shows at my old favorite bar in Brooklyn in celebration of the last ten years of YT. If I had one shot at teleportation I swear I'd use it to see them play again, easy. Because like the album's ultimate track knowingly croons, there are just some things that you love forever.
THREECE.

Instagram is not good for the mind. No duh. But what if it's been your main source of connection for the past 6 years? Everyone's online, everyone's in that group chat you haven't checked in a month, making plans for things you have no idea about, going places you're not invited to.
But is that really the case? Are your friends actually excluding you because you're not on Instagram? No, that's absurd. If they're your friends, which they are, they'll make the attempt to reach out and get you involved in those plans. Maybe it's not always in the most transparent ways but they will ask for you when you're not there. You're not missing anything. You're scrambling to download that answer, to satiate the people-pleasing, FOMO-feeling goblin in your mind, quick to dismiss the progress you've made so far.
Take a deep breath, and just call them. less chances of having your tone misread.

The other day my buddy texted me and asked if I wanted to come over and make action figure dioramas. I was like uh hell yeah are you kidding that sounds like itd be fucking awesome. and guess what? We have spent every night since working on it, posted up in his garage with so much cardboard and paint fumes. I think it's pretty badass! We decided on making a battle scene set in New York, so we started with some buildings to act as hubs to build the rest of the street around, him with his apartments, and me with my bodega. We've been rewatching the MCU, listening to new music, and just talking about our friendship. I really appreciate him. The thing is, we haven't known each other as long as the others, but we've become like brothers. like we just get on each others nerves like siblings, but we also still come back together like brothers. And that's really helped me become more secure in myself strangely, because I think he understands me better than I understand myself, and through various jokes and conversations, he's able to call me on my bullshit and make me more aware and by all of that, it helps me understand myself and improve, if that makes sense. He's just a really good guy! I trust him with my life! And these past few fays have just been like, childhood wish fulfillmen. I never really had friends as a kid that I could do this kinda stuff with, not many people to geek out about this stuff with, nobody was staying up late with me. So this has been really cathartic for me. I've made a bodega, a subway entrance, some miscellaneous city props, just like, really in the zone. And it's been nice to bounce ideas off each other because we're both so excited about this that there's only positive feedback and collaboration, no stressing, no stepping on each others toes.
Idk, it feels really nice to have had these last few days be this little place I can go to. included: pictures of my friend's destroyed apartment building, and my bodega (unfinished)
