I'm not sure if any of these are particularly what you're looking for bc I haven't extensively studied those movements, but you might be interested in 'The Zone of Interest', or the documentary film 'Daughters', theyre both pretty slow and not super plot centric as much as designed to be atmospheric. I though 'A Real Pain' was pretty good I watched that recently. Or if you're looking for absurdism/unexpected plots I'd suggest 'Rotting in the Sun', 'Sorry to Bother You' were both great films that shocked me. Or 'Hundreds of Beavers' which I haven't seen but I've heard good things about the absurdist qualities.

You need to watch from oldest to most recent video, keeping the subtitles on
Movies:
• Any Pedro Almodovar movie. I’d say they’re shocking in the way they creep in and suck you into the absurdity of the universe Pedro throws you in. I like Volver (2006), Talk To Her (2002), What Have I done To Deserve This? (1984). I’ve heard The Skin I Live In is disturbing but I haven’t watched.
• The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017).
• The Suicide Club (2001).
• Crimes of the Future (2022).
• Titane (2021).
Books:
• Flowers in the Attic by V.C Andrews.
• Running With Scissors by Augusten Burroughs: A memoir. A mother gives away his kid to his psychiatrist and lives in his house for a while. It’s a crazy story. Everything really happens to him.
• The Family of Pascual Duarte by Camilo José Cela. This one is one of the most violent books I’ve read.
• This is Pleasure by Mary Gaitskill. It’s about the Me Too era. It‘s sparked lots of discussion and is very short.
• Currently reading Fanny Hill. I would say is shocking now because the protagonist is 15 but is considered to be the first erotic British novel, written in the 1700s. Aside from that, it’s pretty accessible and easy to read, which was unexpected because my native language is not English.
• Paintings by Bosch, Caravaggio and Remedios Varo.
Easy shocks:
• 120 Days of Sodom. I don’t know about the movie, but the book I haven’t finished reading. I know I’ll pick it up again someday but it’s already incorporated pretty much every crime in existence.
• The Human Centipede (2009).
• A Clockwork Orange (1971).

i have such a hard time getting through movies, its brutal and unfortunate. i am fully aware im missing out on some critical pieces of art in consequence, but if isnt both predominantly psychological thriller and as quickly paced as oppenheimer, its super hard to keep me engaged.
i will talk about this movie until the end of time. despite minimal dialogue and the most clinical atmosphere to be captured by means of cinematography, the lack of information and consequential unpredictability kept me thoroughly enticed and fully unnerved for the full two hours. minimalism weaponized for max intensity with no certain direction; epitomization of surrealist thriller.
watching it for the first time without context nor any expectations is an invaluable experience.

It seems like everybody got into the Cremator over the past couple years. Understandably so. Easily one of my favourite films ever made. Looking for more I dove into the scene that spawned it.
The CzSk New Wave came about as a result of a period of political liberalisation in the country. Less government interference meant a greater level of auteurship. Following the Prague Spring this came to an end and many films were banned.
Sometimes overwhelming, full of colour and bizarre dreamlike narratives. Other times slow, plodding and weighted with intense political commentary. These films offer something that you‘d be hard pressed to find in another period of cinema. The kind of expressiveness that only comes from new-found liberation and the eye for technical detail that comes from years of rote reproduction under authoritarianism.
5 films to check out: 1 Something Different 2 The Joke 3 Fireman’s Ball 4 Case for a Rookie Hangman 5 Valerie and Her Week of Wonders
When coming up with a top 5 I had to revisit upon realising 4 out of 5 were directed by Jaromil Jireš. Managed to get it down to two, both of which (The Joke and Valerie Her Week of Wonders) are absolute essentials.
Also worthy of note, this was the environment in which Milos Forman cut his teeth.

I have been sick in bed for about 4 days and didn’t have much to look at, but my bed is littered with these wrappers. Maybe it’s the cold medicine talking, but I think the design is so beautiful. I love the color yellow lately and I love the flowers on the twisty ends. I hate the minimalist logo trend and I deeply miss when design logos/packaging used to all be so unique and interesting, and have intricate drawings.

Spotted at goodwill yesterday, still can’t get over how unique this was. I'm not sure if it was handmade bc I’ve never seen another one like it. I think the light at the top lights up bc it had a cord.
