I love them- kind of like a window into someone’s life.
Especially when the people are much older and their houses are stamped with the time period. I was in one today that was insanely retro- straight out of the 70s
but then I found 2 wheelchairs next to each other- I got upset and had to leave

It’s so fun but so sad. I went to one today and we asked about the owners. the husband died a few years back and the wife was moving into assisted care. her home, clothing, cake pans, even favorite board games were all up for sale. All of the memories in that place were so beautiful.

i feel the exact same way. it's a puzzle, it's a hint about who this person was, it's an outline of someone else in the form of ephemera. i would imagine writers would benefit a lot

they're also so weird in the way you describe--the two wheelchairs, like almost too invasive? I've been at estate sales where they are reselling stuff like half used bottles of shampoo and boxes of band- aids and cleaning products, all their cabinets just emptied out into bins and priced....it's surreal to explore someone's house so intimately yet in a sense of "shopping"

Going to a local vintage/thrift shop always makes me sort of emotional. Every item in there was loved (or hated) at one point and it makes wonder what their story is and how they ended up there.
