god bless the nhs, i think universal healthcare is a basic human right, but oh my god. why does it feel like they'll only give me any help if i become actual roadkill 😭 if only i had a nickel for the number of times i've asked to be referred to a specialist for help for my condition and was simply directed to the nhs page that,,, defines what my condition is,,, the condition i've been diagnosed with for over a decade,,, as a "resource for learning"

about 9/10 people are not educated on their health or what medical help they can access and how to access it. This affects overall public health as people are less likely to seek help at an earlier stage leading to more complex issues, more likely to not get vaccines or procedures due to misinformation, and more likely to make unhealthy choices overall. Improving public health and alleviating pressure on health services starts with education. There’s a really great analogy of saving people in a river. It’s great to pull them out when they’re drowning but it’s even better to look upstream and fix the bridge they keep falling off of. Of course it’s something the govt should invest in - educating people what symptoms to look for, what they can manage at home, and what services they can access apart from A&E and 999. But it also starts with you! like instead of panicking about a small injury and running into A&E, call 111 or walk into an urgent care! Or if you’ve got a sore throat or UTI go to a pharmacy! I know it’s yet another thing to be literate about but it’s something that really benefits not just you but also the health system and others around you (: **disclaimer: I’m UK based but this applies to anywhere

to be fair, i tend to be a little too obsessive about making certain decisions, but when it comes to healthcare professionals the effort is worth it. i spent forever looking at pictures of therapists and GPs before i tried to schedule an appointment with either because the only thing i hate more than taking care of myself is talking to strangers about how i should be taking care of myself! (had to be a youngish woman because i am inherently mistrustful of both men and the elderly. sorry!) i was as picky as i wanted to be and found both a therapist and a GP that are the perfect balance of bossy and kind and i feel good when i see them instead of terrible. it's nice!

i've been really into the idea of taking myself on little solo dates and being generally kinder to myself lately, i think i've been happier with myself recently than i have ever been (the joys of growing up, i guess). and the realisation that i have real adult money and free will and can spend it on whatever is fun! i've been going to more concerts and on little trips and i saw that this one comedy duo i've been seeing a lot on social media were doing a live recording of their podcast in glasgow later this month, and i booked a ticket! planning on taking the day to do a little walking tour of the city, check out a doughnut place someone recommended to me, find a cool looking bar and order myself a pretty cocktail and head to the show - just really make a day of it :) i don't know, i guess i've been really leaning into the idea that of all the people in my life, i am the one i'll have to spend the most time with, and i've been learning to have more fun hanging out with myself, and i feel like i'm coming into my own a little which just makes me so happy <3 hang out with yourself more! life is short man

i've been doing little things to make my life a little easier, like leaving a bottle of water, iron supplements and some belvita soft bakes right by my bed so i always have breakfast, water and iron in the morning, and keeping a very condensed set of skincare stuff right by my toothbrush - it might not be as effective as having more but getting myself to use a cleanser, moisturising sunscreen and vaseline every day has already made my skin feel so much better which has just gotten me more excited to do my routine every day. plus, getting body sprays and haircare stuff and just products in general that you really like the smell of is a game changer because now i get to smell like pineapples and caramel every day! it's such little things but it makes me happy and keeps me doing a routine of things that are good for me :))

i love wearing clothes with fun colours and comfy textures, i feel like it just makes you so much happier walking past mirrors! i got this handmade chunky rainbow sweater with this lovely criss-cross decorative stitching on the outside that makes it look fun and patchworked, and something about the colours just makes me so happy! same with dungarees, i can't believe i only recently picked up a pair because they really do make you feel like the plucky main characters from the books we read at age eleven ( ˶ˆᗜˆ˵ )~✩‧₊
