to be fair, i tend to be a little too obsessive about making certain decisions, but when it comes to healthcare professionals the effort is worth it. i spent forever looking at pictures of therapists and GPs before i tried to schedule an appointment with either because the only thing i hate more than taking care of myself is talking to strangers about how i should be taking care of myself! (had to be a youngish woman because i am inherently mistrustful of both men and the elderly. sorry!) i was as picky as i wanted to be and found both a therapist and a GP that are the perfect balance of bossy and kind and i feel good when i see them instead of terrible. it's nice!

Drs/medical professionals have seen it allll u don’t need to try present a certain image of yourself to avoid judgement. They also don’t have moral superiority over you so if they do judge you, so what, it’s no different to some random doing the same. (Also there are plenty who will be more understanding so if it’s poss u could try find another if u don’t feel respected) Also this extends to not avoiding appointments because you haven’t listened to their instructions (eg do sleep hygiene, flossing, exercises). They need to know! You two should be a team with the same goal, so if you have different priorities re your health, or if there are barriers to improving your health, it‘s important and valuable to talk it through together.

Finally booked that doctor appointment I've been avoiding for a while, now I just have to go… Being an adult it's made sometimes of just these routinely obligations that you could come to see as boring but this one is straight-up anxiety inducing for me. But as Kierkegaard said (probably not in this exact words) it's better to know that not to know. I'm so chill about this. :)))))
