this movie seems to be loved or hated but… a real pain was so sad for some reason i couldn’t like help but cry. real life tears in the theater but i felt heard.

I really loved this movie, even though it wasn't what I expected. I hadn't read or seen much about it before watching it and it was a pleasant surprise. I cried my eyes out twice during this movie. and now, after a few days of watching it, I realized that it made me see a lot of new things about myself. so try to stay clueless about this one and watch it.

I would have put The Brutalist or Conclave on this list had I not just watched A Real Pain by Jesse Eisenberg. Incredibly poignant and touching portrayal of loss and how pain is reverberated throughout time. Kieran Culkin had me sobbing like a puppy. I rate it: 5 bags of popcorn and a copy of Holy Rollers.

finally watched this after seeing a bunch of reels of Jesse talking about the movie on my feed and wow! definitely has second-time writer/director (right?) bits to it but the theme of pain is pulled in so many interesting directions here that the whole thing came out really touching and compelling. and i mean the dinner scene??

I honestly accept despair as it comes even if it is hard. I learn to cope by creating a schedule so packed I have no time to think about the reality. It works for a moment but ultimately I just try to take despair as a temporary feeling. The feeling can be distracted but will never fully go away no matter how much I fight it. Allow despair but don’t let it consume you watch movies, work on hobbies, write a random story or sit on a bench. simple things can ease despair.
