So underrated (?) band featuring a member each of New Order and Kraftwerk, Johnny Marr (the Smiths), and the two Pet Shop Boys. So, the best of the best. But also the songs are sweet and cute.

bizarre experimental new wave synth pop duo - been listening to them a lot lately, this record “code” from 1987 and their record “groovy, laidback and nasty” from 1990 both records sound v much of the era they were each made, spooky sexy electronic stuff - you can hear a cross over between nine inch nails and pet shop boys

I feel like the whole acid house ("aceeeeed") / Balearic beats scene is due for a critical revisit. I obsessed mightily over New Order for years. At least one track from theirs was likely in every DJ set I ever spun from college until the point where I DJ'd for KXSF during the pandemic (2020-2022). The extended singles were gold -- you could throw on a track like "Fine Time" (there was an mix that went for nine minutes plus), walk to the bar, grab a drink, watch the crowd dance/sweat, and still make it back to the booth in plenty of time to throw on a nine-minute Stone Roses mix. To the extent that Madchester made its bank by blending rock guitars and programmed beats, New Order had been doing that since the band was called Joy Division ("Love Will Tear Us Apart," anyone?). 🐐
