I feel like the whole acid house ("aceeeeed") / Balearic beats scene is due for a critical revisit. I obsessed mightily over New Order for years. At least one track from theirs was likely in every DJ set I ever spun from college until the point where I DJ'd for KXSF during the pandemic (2020-2022). The extended singles were gold -- you could throw on a track like "Fine Time" (there was an mix that went for nine minutes plus), walk to the bar, grab a drink, watch the crowd dance/sweat, and still make it back to the booth in plenty of time to throw on a nine-minute Stone Roses mix. To the extent that Madchester made its bank by blending rock guitars and programmed beats, New Order had been doing that since the band was called Joy Division ("Love Will Tear Us Apart," anyone?). 🐐

Hey tyler hopefully this doesn’t violate some PI.FYI golden rule But after nearly two years of writing, editing and arguing, my book about the EP is coming out in May and can be preordered here: https://hozacrecords.com/product/aifl/ The book is about the origins, history and cultural impact of the EP since these little objects first started coming out in the 50s. Over 50 of my music biz friends then helped me shape the list and review the top 200 ever released, according to us (ha). For those of you who are into this kind of geekery/snobbery, I can’t wait to hear what you think. A labor of love, as all books are! ❤️
