if it’s crowded (i.e. you are meaningfully limiting the cafe’s capacity by taking up a table that could be used by multiple people) up it to one purchase per hour. at places where i’m a regular i might push it further because the baristas are aware i’m a reliable cash cow but i’m typically not at a cafe for more than four hours anyways

especially if it is 8am and there is one barista working and you come in during the morning rush and can see the line of people behind you and order multiple drinks including a frappe

i open at work a lot, i’m a barista at a coffee shop inside a fancy ish food market which is basically just an upscale cafeteria for business people who are too hip for sweetgreen. we’re the only booth that opens before 11 am here! and there are only 4 of us baristas now, there used to be more but recent drama has resulted in some serious jumping ship. it really just means our opener options went from 4 to 2, so i come in at 6:50 am a lot more. i’ve been getting to know the morning crowd better and better, i feel quite close to 8 oz americano, he always wishes me a good day, 12 oz iced chai with whole milk and a blueberry muffin is always kind as well, and oat milk flat white (except for one time he was 16 oz cold brew, we both laughed at that) smiles when he sees me.  i like to be the smiley barista they get to have a minimal morning chat with, and plus i feel cool saying “just the usual?”

spent the last two weeks working on an interactive guide, recommendations database, and digital library (link depot) to help get people off of social media. the first draft is done now, and it's at the link to this post. it's still very much a work in progress (the library is especially thin atm) - which is why i wanted to share it here before unleashing it upon my IRL friends and the general public. i welcome any and all feedback, bug reports, and suggestions for things to add. i will be pushing updates to it out like a madman in the coming weeks, so be sure to check back every so often to see new additions to the database and library. additionally, i am still on the hunt for newsletters from local venues / community organizations / magazines / newspapers, etc. the only cities i have remotely covered so far are nyc, orlando, denver, brisbane, and little bits of worcester and chicago. if you know anything in your area that fits the bill, send it my way!
