My friend from uni hooked me on audio fiction, it’s basically a show but only audio but also really different and COOL. I didn’t realize that I had come accross the genre years ago with Welcome to Nightvale, which is a fun/creepy/sleepy/nonsensical show but now that I’m properly introduced to it IM SO INTO IT!!!! I really recommend Midnight Burger, it’s a science fiction story and it’s SO MUCH FUN, and Im bad at selling all of this but please give it a try!!

if you like voice acted story type podcasts and like to have big thoughts about the world, this is a real fun one. it’s about a time and space traveling diner and the group of people who left behind their normal lives to work there. the world created in this one is absolutely insane and the characters are thoughtfully written and charming. im on season three of the main podcast and a few episodes in to the extra podcast about one of the main characters. whole thing so far has been a great experience. it‘s silly but gets real emotional and dark at times. still, listening to the story unfold and all the different perspectives it explores really makes me feel small and cozy in this big crazy world

This is one of my favorite fiction podcasts & it's from the creators of Welcome to Night Vale! Each season takes a different form of "found audio" and explores a different part of the same alternate universe, so you can start piecing together information about the shared world they are set in. I won't spoil too much, but some of the characters connect as well. The first season is in the form of hospital relaxation tapes, then later seasons move to museum audio guides, voicemails, etc. SUPER interesting but also calming to listen to. The museum audio guide is my favorite, because the writers basically created their own art history for this alternate universe that was influenced by the universe's historical events. It gives a lot more context for the world we were introduced to in Season 1. This podcast completely expanded my view of how stories can be told; cannot recommend it enough!!

if you’re into podcasts that have extremely long, overarching stories, try welcome to night vale, the adventure zone or the magnus archives. the adventure zone: balance is peak d&d liveplay podcasting for me, it seriously changed my mental state as a young teen, and it’s funny, emotional and has great music. as for albums, i’ve been loving imogen heap extended editions with instrumentals, like speak for yourself and sparks
