I think it’s sacrilegious to wear headphones outside because you miss out on eavesdropping, bird chirps, car window music, compliments, wind rustles. But on the subway it is loud and headphones help keep the screeches out. Also you never know when you want to just zone out to some Aphex or Cocteau Twins

my headphones broke recently, so i’ve been wandering without them! to be honest, especially in a city like boston, ira beautiful. no, this is not cope for my broken headphones. boston really comes alive in the spring and summer, and that is the PERFECT time to wander around and listen to the ebbs and flows of traffic, chirping birds, arguing drivers, and footsteps on the sidewalk. there’s something i find very calming and pretty about these sounds. going to try not to wear my new headphones 24/7 :)

I‘ve always been an adamant listener of music while on walks, at a cafe, etc. but recently I’ve feeling more anxious, more disconnected than usual. Not listening to music has helped me feel significantly more grounded, more aware of my surroundings, connected to the world around me. Also, strangers will definitely be more inclined to speak to you if they know you can hear them. If you’re into that sort of thing.

a study issued last month found that dancing is the most effective way of treating and mitigating depression. Walking, therapy, and yoga also outpaced SSRIs. and if you're saying 'oh this was probably funded by Big Dance', there's no evidence of that and if you're saying 'that's just what a Big Dance shill would say', well honey you're right
