I‘ve always been an adamant listener of music while on walks, at a cafe, etc. but recently I’ve feeling more anxious, more disconnected than usual. Not listening to music has helped me feel significantly more grounded, more aware of my surroundings, connected to the world around me. Also, strangers will definitely be more inclined to speak to you if they know you can hear them. If you’re into that sort of thing.

I am rarely caught without my headphones on, I enjoy the sensory depravation of it all however I find it contributes to this sense of derealization and disconnection from the world around me - playing music out loud places the music in the physical world and makes me feel more grounded in reality. the music interacts with the space around me and my entire body, not just inside my own head!

hanging out with someone and then they put their airpods in/headphones on makes me feel ignored😔 As a music lover myself, I know I do it sometimes too. but when people do this, it lowkey hurts my feelings. I understand that this can be necessary for the people with social/general anxiety, because same here, but please we need to work on this =( plus unplugging in public can be a great way to make friends too (unless you’re purposefully trying to avoid people) so personally, I’m going to try and actively work on saving my music for home alone time

I have had an ear infection the last couple of days and I literally cannot wear headphones without considerable pain. the unintended benefit of this is that I’ve had to walk my dog without music blasting and it’s so nice. we have a cacophony of bird sounds in the late afternoon/evening here in Australia (magpies, cockatoos, lorikeets, plovers) and usually my music drowns this out, but having no headphones means I have to listen to the sounds and it’s low key beautiful. the sounds of nature are beautiful. noticing the birds is beautiful. life is richer than we realise if we choose to notice and listen to the sounds around us instead of insulating ourselves from them.

It’s Friday night and I’m off work late with no plans but I felt like being out in the world, even if for a moment. Turns out, a low stakes glass of orange wine tastes great when you’re waiting for a $10 burrito platter from down the street.

I’ve spent so much time scrolling on this app that I’m able to discern some of your writing voices. There are a couple of you who have such a developed voice that I can guess you wrote a post before seeing the attached username. You’re all so observant, introspective, delusional, earnest, anxious, well-rounded, hilarious and loving. Kind of breaks my heart that I’ll likely never meet some of my favorites because we all live everywhere, but I guess that’s why we thank God for the Internet!
