I know you’re a man of taste and so I want to direct you to Nikka, my fav Japanese distillery. Both of the Coffey whiskies (~$75) live in my rotation at all times; I prefer the malt to the grain but both are incredible. My wife’s dad put me on to their From The Barrel bottle and that’s one that I’ve bought for new jobs, when we got married, and when we had our daughter — special moments for a ~$100 bottle. If you’re looking for something you don’t have to mix but can if needed, Nikka Days is the best entry point to simple sipping Japanese whisky at ~$50. (If you mix anything with the Coffey ones or From the Barrel I will drive to you and chug the rest of the bottle.) The only thing to consider with Japanese is the fluctuating prices; they cannot keep up with production post covid so the prices all might be +/-$10 from what I quoted. Enjoy!

brendanooooo Yeah I’d look for any…nicer store? like unfortunately you won’t find it everywhere, but a little niche neighborhood shop will carry it. Look for a store with nerds, they will carry it for sure.

Both the malt & grain whisky sit in my top 10. The gin has notes of green apple / pepper = wonderful. And the vodka is the only drinkable vodka on the market imo. Very good products.

The under appreciated rarer house whiskey of the 3rd Suntory distillery. Brings some extra sweetness mixed in with its smoothness which sometimes gets sets it off in the perfect way.

Nah I see y’all liking & subbing without recommending anything, that’s fine. Let me give you a starting point: (All of this is to taste btw) - Lemon juice, fresh or bottled idc - Honey - Hot water - Bourbon or whiskey, preferably japanese Take some honey & lemon juice and pour it into a container, then slowly add some hot water to it; it'll make a syrup. I bottle and store this for more uses. Pour some into a glass, and then pour in your bourbon (Noah’s Mill for me) or whiskey (Nikka Days for me) of choice until it looks right. Mix it up. Add ice. Enjoy 2-3. Be warm and cozy and fall asleep on the couch. Edit: oh yeah add bitters, a few little droplets. Add them in whenever your heart desires you to.

florinegrassenhopper riotgrrrl brendanooooo slowdazzle buck_mcgraw and indianjones — we did it. Not only did we successfully meet for drinks, but we also schemed the hostile takeover of this app from tyler tonight. In all seriousness — weird that an app I downloaded in April would make genuinely want to drive back into Brooklyn during end of day traffic for a happy hour. Great app filled with great people.

I feel like there’s a special connectivity on this app that I haven’t felt in a long time, maybe since early 2010’s tumblr. The fact that you can’t promote yourself like IG is wonderful. The fact that there isn’t mass video content like Tik Tok is great. It’s not this monetized / paid sponsorship app. People are here because they want to be a part of something with nothing to gain besides friendship. Seeing the URL -> IRL meetups warms my heart so much (waiting for an NYC or Brooklyn meetup). Thanks for your participation on this niche little app. I smile reading all the recs and all the comments and all the asks. Hope we’ll all be here for a long time.

I think a life rule for me is to surround myself with people who know more / are smarter / are cooler than me and just absorb their aura by listening / observing them. It’s made me the incredibly smart / cool person you all know and love. I just never thought I’d feel the same way about URL friends. I’m constantly listening to the songs I see posted here, reading the articles, subbing to newsletters, and googling topics that get tossed onto the feed. It’s nice to know you can become a more rounded person by just absorbing what your mutuals post on here. I’m going to sit on my couch, have a cocktail and digest my lovely feed. Happy Sunday!
