I am going to finish this book. Page by page, sentence by sentence, punctuation by punctuation, even if it takes me until summer.
"But that's months from now!"
Guess what? That time will pass regardless.
So I might as well make my brain better and stronger and more culturally literate. What else am I going to do, look on my phone? I do that every day!

In the last few years, maybe around the writing of my own book, I've developed the yips when it comes to finishing things. Even books I love. I just feel the page stack getting thinner in my right hand and then something comes over me and I start something else and another one gets added to this growing pile next to my bed, 60-80 percent creased. But there's something comforting about them all sitting there (and more on my ebook apps), because I really do feel like I'll get to them, and in the meantime, I can sample more widely while still scrolling on my phone for seven hours a day. (The end of Rap Capital is good, though.)

Do I understand what is happening in this book? Absolutely not! But I will not be cowed by a mere 900 pages! I am chasing the thrill of conquest! When I am done I am allowed to read a little Terry Pratchett as a treat!

I bought a book that caught my eye from a bookstore in Boston either as a high schooler or college student. As a busy, unmotivated ex-reader, I could barely get past the first 10 pages.
For at least four years but probably more, Iβve picked up and read the first few pages a few times. Itβs come with me to every apartment and most vacations.
I read some books for pleasure last year, the first since middle school, and felt like a baddie. Then I started a meh book and fell off the reading train.
I brought this new book on a trip this weekend and started it over yesterday. It is so good. I just finished it. I knew it was worth taking everywhere. Am very proud of myself :,)
