first time playing through this series and i’m so obsessed with it. it’s been fun playing a kingdom hearts game on my DS but the story is so extremely emotional that i usually wait to play it at home in case i start crying. kind of defeats the purpose of a portable game system?

didn't have a lot of friends in 2nd grade, but I had anger issues and Kingdom Hearts 2. it's pretty strange looking back that I took the stuff missing from my relationships in real life and projected it all into a game about friendship.
i replay it once every couple of years, the game holds up very well. it's my favorite game of all time, arguably one of the greatest games of all time, and arguably the only game where mickey mouse says "door to darkness" and beats the shit out of anime characters. there's only 3-ish kingdom hearts games still worth playing and this is one of them. the soundtrack is tied for my favorite game soundtrack. jesse mccartney, hayden panettier, and haley joel osment make up the stacked voice cast.
playing this game today takes me back to that lonely (and frankly demented) kid who just loved to explore that world.

i've never been very interested in or even good at most video games, but i'm SO obsessed with this rn. usually if i think a video game sounds fun or interesting, i'll just watch people play it on youtube, but i actually decided to play this myself and i'm so grateful for that. i'm only like 70% through the second episode, but i'm loving it soooo much. the second game just came out, and i've decided to go into both pretty much completely blind. the only things i've seen are a few clips of the easter eggs, and it makes the second game sound even more fun. basically, i can't wait to finish both and know more about the story bc it's just completely captivated me. i'm also playing on easy and still get scared but that's ok i will persevere😭😭

video game magazine ads (and marketing in general) from the 2000s are a super specific love of mine. each one felt dynamic and unique, but also distinct to the time period. the sonic adventure 2 campaign has some of my favorites. as a kid, you felt cool just looking at these! in a time where companies were trying to cater to skate/punk culture, artists were able to experiment and create pieces that were radical and extreme. i really hope we get over this whole minimalist thing that started in the late 2010s. we need to get back to making stuff exciting again!
