I miss traveling. There was a time when it was my whole life goal. Now it's been over a year since I last properly traveled. This picture is from my trip to Japan two years ago, taking the Shinkansen for the first time. I love public transport and trains (experiencing them in different countries is the best). But is the Shinkansen a bit overrated? Don’t get me wrong, the scenery is stunning, and the little tune at each stop is so charming. But the speed gave me motion sickness, and the windows aren't as big as I expected. Still, such a cool experience!

The greatest mode of travel in the world is Japan's bullet train. My one tip is to make sure you book a seat on the side that'll be facing Mt. Fuji when you go by it because it's worth the price of admission alone (not really, the round trip ride is expensive as shit compared to most public transportation, but I assume you'll be using it to go between cities)

I only take flights over oceans, and have avoided short-haul flights for about 5 years now. It’s the combination of deep environmental guilt, but also tbh I just *really* enjoy train travel. I just took the train from London to Venice Italy which was incredible—sunset over the alps. European trains are so much further ahead than American trains, which is silly when you think about the whole railroad race / baron situation in the late 1800s. America could have had such a cool rail network. I took the train from LA to San Francisco last year and it took 15 hours. FIFTEEN! and the only food on board was soggy hot dogs. Nein danke. Pls send your rail execs to Europe for some on-the-tracks research. It's just so much more stress-free to walk into a station in the middle of a city, taking time to read as fields and forests speed by, a chic little snack and then, boom, you arrive right in the middle of another city as if nothing happened.

Been romanticizing traveling by train these days, I think a Japanese luxury train “cruise“ would be the peak experience The quietness of this video stands out to me

Kid me was ready to work at the airport (pilot, cleaner, baggage handler, didn't matter). I just wanted to be where planes take off and people cry, hug, and head off for adventures. Basically, I just loved airport drama.
