I haven’t read it in a while but I thought it was refreshing when I did read it - a nice movement away from Kantian muck

Was it you who originally rec’d this one to me? I only got like 15 pages in because I found it challenging and would love to know how you digest it

Not to double rec, but recently just read the need for roots as well. It has some interesting critiques of Marx and exploration of what duty to others looks like amidst fascism. A bit dense in some of the parts where she’s delving into french history, and be for-warned she goes a spiritual direction at the end. Some recommend Oppression and Liberty over this one, but I haven’t read that one yet so can’t speak to it. (apologies again for not being super niche)

Isn’t half the fun in trying to read texts in ways that weren’t intended?
I think reading “morally questionable” work is worth it just to excavate the fault lines of ideology. What logics underpin our world?

A non-fiction rec for U! How might we change systems that we are already complicit in and compromised by? Grapples with settler colonialism, pollution, and climate change in ways that do not make me feel hopeless. Where my interest in SF (science fiction, speculative fiction, speculative futures) began.

Gazpacho only in the late summer, persimmons only in the winter, etc. just because we can import anything from anywhere anytime doesn’t mean we should. Nothing is special if you can have it whenever you want it.

So much so that you stare at it like gollum and fantasize about passing it down to your unborn children. I got a new bracelet at the antique store
