These have been my big three for awhile āĀ already said good-bye to the first two, have been bracing for Dylan for awhile now.
How do we keep him alive?
Maybe: introduce his music to others, play it loud and sign along, live out his greatest ideals of justice and goodness, learn the historical context for his music, make our own art, live fearlessly, love others with everything we can, feed the hungry, care for the poor, fight for the oppressed, visit the lonely, hold hands with the dying, shed tears with those who are grieving, love our enemies

most of my favorite music is made with intention. every song has a purpose, within that every line, every note has a reason to be there to move the story forward or build emotion or something. somehow bob dylan escapes all of this.
not every single word or verse in a bob dylan song is essential. you could delete plenty of verses and not feel lost or even emotionally incomplete. why? how?
most people like me are curators. we find things that make us say THAT. THAT right there, that has something. you canāt say what and thatās why itās so special. most of us couldnāt fathom making a THAT if we tried. the essence is that its intangible, it couldnāt be designed. it has to be found. iāve made a THAT of my own once, maybe twice in my whole life.
anyway bob dylan is a factory of these. they just come, they happen. the lines that bypass your intellect, your reason, and go straight to your emotional centers. āmy warehouse eyes, my arabian drums.ā i couldnāt say what it means but it pulls my heart out of my chest every time i hear it. thatās what his verses are for. each one is space for another nugget, another THAT. itās incredible.

Everyone knows Bowie, but did you really?
I didnāt know enough, but over the last couple of months I decided to start listening to the man who inspired many if not all of the modern musical geniuses.
The music is beautiful:
Hunky Dory Album: incredible, makes me feel seen for my weirdness, and empowered to stand up to the man, while also loving myself more.
Lets Dance Album: Fun music to dance to, and the song Criminal World makes me think of my trans brothers & sisters who fight for their rights every day.
Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps) Album: first album I dove into after discovering the incredible song āAshes to Ashesā which was also recently covered by Magdalena Bay (whom I love) on Like a Version. This entire album is not only a major political statement if you really listen, but also reminds me that I am young and not defined by the mistakes Iāve made in the past, I just need to live in the moment and enjoy everything I can.
The Rise & Fall of Ziggy Stardust Album: I mean come onā¦ this one is already know for being incredible, but just listen to it again in full.
