Available on Spotify or youtube, old time radio shows like the Mel Blanc or Jack Benny show, complete with nostolgic ads for products that don't exist any more.
It’s informative and relaxing and the hosts are two funny Brits who really love history. I forget about it and then listen to all the new ones and get sad when I’m caught up and forget again.
Also “Obscure” which is just Michael Ian Black reading an old usually obscure-for-a -reason depressing book. It’s soothing.
This is my favorite podcast (but it is technically a radio show). I am a spotify user and have apple music just to hear this show. Hosted by Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig and painter Jake Longstreth.
Some of their favorite topics are corporate food history (guests like CEO of Dunkin), 1970s rock music (huge Dead heads), and comparing the top 5 songs today with the top 5 from a year in another era (50s-current day).
This show is a joy and a comfort and one of the only things holding me down sometimes.
Amazing boom-bap, lyrics work and visuals (especially her Youtube sitcom versions of Denial). She's wicked smart and I wouldn't be surprised if she's the next generation's Taylor Swift.
Substack has taken over my daily reading with amazing newsletters by smart people. What newsletters do your favorite newsletters read? This mind-mappy image (see link for more readable version) will give you days of new reading.
