We (Americans) do not see it because there's been nothing else to see, but specificity of American misogyny is both blatant and fascinating when examined in such a well mapped way. This is a forgotten feminist classic of the 90s.
If you want to see how the same patterns and cycles of backlash have been and are still playing out, read this book. If you read one single chapter of this book every month, each month you’d have so many more things to think about and research. Densely relevant.

Had a former English teacher recommend me this (we still get coffee hehe) and I’m not too far into it but it’s already made me think about race and conversations about race differently.
I’m biracial and in the introduction, Diangelo actually talks about the “middle” and this idea of “saliency” in regards to multiracial people, and I *never* hear people talk about the multiracial experience, even if the author admits it’s too complex of a topic to cover in her book which primarily tackles the idea of white fragility. But I very much appreciated her saying that and I’m learning a lot from the book.

From Sinatra it's either The Lady Is A Tramp or Don't Be That Way. But there's a ton of other good stuff like that from the 60s, like Bing Crosby, Brenda Lee, Etta James, etc. Check out Lenny Williams too! He's more popular in the 70s but I think he's little closer to the style of the 60s- just different enough to be something fresh for your ears and similar enough to pique your interest :)
