My favourite camera system is still micro four-thirds from Panasonic and Olympus! There's plenty of super small bodies (eg Lumix gm1, gx800 or the Olympus Pen E line) and thin lenses to choose from. So you can really go for a super compact setup, which is also easily upgradable. And you can adapt pretty much any vintage lens! There's also nikon 1 and pentax q, which are similar concepts but even more compact. And especially the former can be found for very cheap on ebay. Haven't used those two myself tho (yet). If you want to go more into the fixed zoom lens direction I can recommend the lumix lx100 and people really like the sony rx100 line. Unfortunately the premium point and shoot market feels like it's almost dead at this point but there are soo many great ones out there on ebay from a few years ago when camera manufacturers still cared about that segment!

Do you want a compact or interchangeable lenses? Fujifilm and Ricoh GR lines are good recs for compact fixed lens options. Expensive tho. I rock a Sigma fp. Expensive and fiddly interchangeable lens system. But extremely flexible and modular. One of my first cameras was from the Casio Exilim line so I'd rec one of those out of pure nostalgia. Might be fun to play around with.

honestly, at this point most cameras are pretty much All Excellent. unless you're a professional photographer and really care about specs, most cameras under $500 are gonna get you some great photos. the olympus e-m10 mark ii is a few years old at this point, but a steal of a deal at ~$350. it takes great photos on the regular auto setting if yr not into messing with settings, but is a really capable compact mirrorless camera. has all the bells and whistles for when you do want to fuck around with the settings. also has a nice feature where it emits a wifi signal for you to transfer photos to your phone. lens recs: i managed to snag a OM SYSTEM OLYMPUS M.Zuiko Digital 17mm F1.8 lens for a couple hundred bucks on ebay a while ago, and it makes all of your photos look incredible, especially portraits. for something cheap and fun, check out the pocket dispo lens.

The Canon you mentioned probably is more affordable than any of these, but you might want to check them out. Each one has multiple generations. The Fuji and Ricoh have wide angle lenses, no zoom. The Sony zooms. happy hunting!

It reminds me of how mubi used to be, they select one rare movie (documentaries, shorts, features new and old) per week with an essay about it. It's great if you want to build a habit of watching more movies, especially those that aren't widely known. And the best part: it's free!
