a word used to describe the smell of rain on dry land.It's derived from the Greek "petra" (stone) and "ichor" which means ethereal blood of the gods in Greek mythology. this word largely came about in the sixties and this smell is mainly caused due to the presence of geosmin which we are very sensitive to.
