My mum is a British, middle class woman with absolutely no hip hop literacy. Someone recommended she listen to André 3000's "flute" album as she plays the flute in a local orchestra.
I played it to her. She was immediately disappointed.
I’ve been getting super into The Bee Gees, Todd Rundgren, Marvin Gaye, etc the last few years. It’s really fun to play them for my mom and hear her talk about how she danced to Fanny (Be Tender With My Love) at her prom etc.
today i shared hozier‘s cover of do i wanna know and i destroyed disco by the dare; she sent me lykke li‘s cover of silver springs
and then we talked about chvrches’ cover of do i wanna know and tove lo’s cover of dancing on my own. we both love bbc1 and like a version covers :) (which she intro’d me to!)
very fun thing to do 11/10 highly recommend. the mothers (or mother figures) in your life will probably enjoy it too
It's run by an incredibly smart woman named Annie Rawerda, who has a sense of humour which really just fits.
Some post are poetic and profound, others are fascinating and enriching, but I am mostly there for the whimsey...
I've been loving this song the last few days. Especially the "La da da" hook. The album has some other great tracks to and he's definitely a good Wikipedia rabbit hole to fall down x
