Italy had a hard time to accept miniskirts, divorces, contraceptives and gay couples, just to name a few, also due to the strong presence of Rome as the highest religious institution. This was the context from the 60s-70s onwards, and among the many figures who fighted and stood up for freedom, Raffaella CarrĆ  did it in her own way on national television. With an ironic and empowering song dedicated to the hemline of the skirt: mini, midi, maxi, because at the time, wearing a MINIskirt was a tremendous social problem.Ā  Therefore part of the lyrics follows like this: šŸŽ¤I avoid many discomforts If I wear a mini. Better to wear the maxi If I go by taxi. With such weird ideas I cover and uncover the legs To look elegant and fashionable because… I dress for you! (meaning yourself)šŸŽ¤ Adored and loved by the gay community, by children, families and women, she brought a message of liberation and freedom of expression that had an enormous success in Italy and abroad. Her songs are direct, fun, choreographed and entertaining. The looks are sexy but never arrogant and she created a lot of buzz for showing the belly. -atlasofshows

watched ā€œstrip nude for your killerā€ last night and they played this absolutely spectacular performance in the preshow. it’s got everything: a passionate makeout! color coordinated outfit changes! an evil stretchy peewee-herman house! god bless italy. best vowels i’ve ever heard.

when i was in 6th grade my catholic mom gave me this album for christmas lol. i was a huge madonna fan and course she knew most of it would go over my head. in my 20s i got back into this album and it still slaps. 90s house, post-AIDs crisis darkness, a mediation on love and sex and it’s inseparable ties with pain and death. it sounds really raw in places; madonnas voice sounds thin and her lyrics are occasionally clumsy. but it’s haunting and beautiful. crazy that a pop star of her stature did an album like this at the height of her fame. also the bad girl video is directed by david fincher and stars christopher walkin. incredible.
