I got a used camera from a family member for Christmas. I was excited to try it and shoot a test roll, but I was unfortunately Too Dim to load it properly. The test roll was a total wash! I properly loaded it with an expensive roll of film that I had laying around and am trying it out now.
Nevertheless I would like to discuss the opportunity available to consumers that is called Harman Phoenix 200 - a new brand of color film. For some reason the fancy scanners cannot deal with this film. I had a lab scan it and it came back all orange. My roommate has a scanner so I also scanned it at home and that is ultimately the image I have attached

Yep. Phoenix is weird and not a great choice for folks who don’t have a lot of experience shooting film. It’s still weird for veteran photographers, but they have a better chance of using it in situations where Phoenix works best (for them). I read this article that says the photo lab needs to scan it with a Noritsu scanner and even then they may have to make specific adjustments for Phoenix. https://carmencitafilmlab.com/blog/harman-phoenix-review/ They also have a lot of sample images so you can see if you like the look you might get! If you’re not familiar with film photography YouTube, check out grainydays, Kyle MacDougall and others to see howthey’re using Phoenix. Forgive me please if you knew all this already!

i first bought a film camera at an antique shop last summer and i immediately fell in love with it. despite the cost of film and development, i love it so much more than most cameras. i grew up accidentally collecting cameras from thrift stores and my mom’s friends, including one of the very first popular models of polaroid camera! when i bought the film, the man who owned the store gave me some free 18-exposure (i think ?) film. when i got the film developed, i realized that there was this blue hue to the photos. i am not sure why and didnt think to google it but for whatever reason, the next set of developed photos had that same hue, but ONLY FOR THE FIRST 8 EXPOSURES i was so confused but i dont care honestly it looked good while it lasted

frankly I’m surprised it took me so long to admit this. I bought a one-way train ticket to Reno Nevada. It cost me $240 (flex fare, not the basic fare!) and it has become so Much More Than a line on my bank statement. It has become the only thing I think about. If you are in need of something to think of a lot, spend $240 on a cross country Amtrak fare, and ponder it.
