lots of great responses in this thread! just wanted to say that true change takes so much longer than we expect it to. I started on a journey of ā€œchanging my lifeā€ and my attitude towards it back in 2020, and its only now in 2024 that Iā€™m starting to see major changes that I can trace back to that original decision to improve my life. Sure, thereā€™s been lots of rewarding little milestones along the way, but the big things take time. The lesson is, donā€™t be hard on yourself if you make changes but your life isnā€™t tangibly improved next month. Make changes for your long-term future self :)

something ive found over the course of the past year and a half is that personal change is completely unnoticed until you look at yourself and compare how you were in the past compared to now. every moment we are changing and that is the beauty of life. every conversation, every thought, and every action we have in our world is contributing to a personal change in the self. its a simple thought, that change happens over time, but a thought that we as humans often dont want to consider. its a hard thing to be aware of. that a personal journey takes a lifetime. if we could make major improvements on ourselves in one night we all would, but unfortunutely change involves millions of small, mostly unnoticed, steps that contribute to a prosperous life, whatever that means to you. some steps are bigger than others, for example quitting unhealthy habits, or cutting toxic people out of your life as much as you can, but most of it is a combination of living life and seeing things through all of the lenses. this is at least what i have learned through the start of my life and how i see change. is it possible to see change? of course. is it likely that most change will go unnoticed and only realized far later? yes.

Typically it boils down to forming habits you aspire to have. Which is infinitely more difficult than it sounds unfortunately. Especially if you arenā€™t already aware of what causes what you donā€™t like about yourself. That takes therapy and introspection. Just remember that at the end of the day change canā€™t happen over night, or at least the change that counts. Give yourself grace and time to evolve, because at the end of the day thats what lifeā€™s journey is all about.

Iā€™ve been thinking about this a lot regarding my plan to purge/organize my home, because the way I used to do projects like this just doesnā€™t work anymore. I can no longer wait until I have the energy, then do as much as I can in one go. I do not have the gift of uninterrupted time anymore. Instead, Iā€™ve had to adjust to a more slow and steady way of working. I choose *one* space to work on each day. Often times it ends up being one drawer, or corner, or step in the process. Logically this is great and the best way to meet my goals. Mentally/emotionally I kid of hate it because itā€™s not how Iā€™ve worked for my entire life. I have big ideas and want to do them right now!!!! But, when is growth or change ever without a bit of uncomfortability or pain? So, I am actively changing my mindset. I speak positively to myself about the one small thing I did that day. I share that one small thing with my husband and friends. Because in actuality if it was so easy for me to do, I wouldā€™ve done it before. So my effort deserves some recognition!! Positive reinforcement, even when itā€™s to our own selves, can carry us a long way šŸ«¶

when i was younger i would wake up and just sit up in bed staring at literally nothing for five mins, just letting thoughts pass me by and not focusing on anything in particular -- truly a great way to start the day is to sit in silence and stillness for a few mins (in hindsight i may have stumbled into meditation without meaning to but suffice to say i'm doing this again now and it's the best!)

i'm talking The Dreamers, Y Tu Mama Tambien, Before Sunrise. Movies just don't hit like that when you see them for the first time when you're already grown
