im talking the 50s style diners, the small breakfast place that is family owned, the restuant that has become a local chain and only exists in one state, the bar that one guy has continually owned since the beginning of time, the tiny soda bar that popped up nearby, the coffee shop run by an ex-convict donating money to charity in their small town. the stuff that you could get for cheaper at a fast food place but let's be honest the experience at one of these places is more human and more yummy all for it

This is my staple weekend meal. It’s a tiny diner on Delancey and Essex, and has been a New York City institution since the ‘70s. It has an extensive and creative menu, but I think on your first visit you should get the mac ‘n’ cheese pancakes and eat them with syrup and hot sauce. A great place to take a few select friends (max 4 to table), or dine alone and chat up your counter neighbour.

The best internet platforms enshittify when they take on VC funding, either exiting to the market or a larger acquisition as a result of the pressures of venture capital. It’s all downhill from there: Investors and leadership will strip the company for parts, enforce mass layoffs, sabotage the user experience, all in the name of maximizing returns. What if Perfectly Imperfect took a different route, and exited to its community of users, paid subscribers, and workers? What if PI became a solidarity cooperative, or something similar? Let’s think about how to safeguard the legacy of this clearly beloved platform.
