I read this in one sitting on a cruise ship when I was in college. Not necessarily “light“ reading given the setting but I enjoyed it.

this book was given to me by reed college when i got accepted there but i only read it this march. honestly such a life changing book. i really recommend this book (especially if you're black) as it was so incredible in its writing and themes. it reminded me a lot of the show atlanta (which i also love) because a lot of it felt surreal. i've recently begun to adore afro-surrealism because it often captures what it feels like to be black in america. if anyone knows of any other works that deal with similar themes, please recommend them! hopefully my summer reading list goes crazy lol

This was my review on goodreads when I first read it: Ok so it sounds so cheesy to call it transcendent, but...this book is transcendent, and I don’t say that lightly. A moving exploration of faith, love, science, addiction and above all, meaning making. It questions why do we do what we do, what amount of choice we have over that, and if there’s a reason for it all, but in such a rich and tender way that they feel like completely new questions. This book is, to me, a classic already. I’ll be highly surprised if this doesn’t make its way into GCSE or A level English literature or philosophy reading lists at some point in the future, and if it doesn’t then that is a failing of education. Give Yaa Gyasi all the awards.

Its a web app that people submit 1 song per week and then everyone gets to vote on the all the different songs but their own. After all the rounds have been completed, the person with the most votes wins! Its a fun way to share music with people and get competitive. Been using this app with other online communities and friends for a few months and have really been enjoying it. NOTE: I created a PI.FYI League where the first submission is this friday. I limited it to 25 people for now not sure if I should open that up to more but it would be pretty overwhelming to have more than 25 songs to listen and vote on. The join link is attached to this rec!
