this album is genuinely fantastic!
i would describe it as a screamy alternative rock album, definitely with influences from hardcore, emo, and indie rock. that being said, i think that it is still suuuuper palatable for people who don't tend to listen to music that's as hard as what i listen to 😅
i went to the album release show back in march on the night of its release and the show was MAGICAL! i also saw Zeta open for them and they are also actually so goated. genuinely one of the best shows i've been to in a very long time :P
ps- the rest of their discography is also insane plsss give them a listen

Gouge Away expanded their sound more than ever on this one for a great mix of hardcore punk and indie rock. Released in March after a 6-year wait, this record absolutely rips. I saw them back in January at a show where they filmed the music video for the track "Dallas," and I've had it back in rotation lately preparing for seeing them again on Sunday.

tl;dr - This is really fun slam-core album. If you like deathcore, I think you will really like this album. (Check out the song Adamaster if you only wanna listen to one song from this album). If you like slam, check out the song Adamaster, I think you'll have a great time!
So I saw today that Vulvodynia is supposed to play in Sydney next week, so I was thinking it might be fun to see them. I decided I would give their most recent album, Entabeni (which I somehow missed over the summer?) a listen to get a feel for their new sound.
I have been a long-time fan of Vulvodynia and was a bit apprehensive about the direction of the band following the (justified) dismissal of their frontman for his shitty behavior. I was a bit worried about how the sound would change, especially after not being particularly wowed by Eulogy of Ashes when it released as a single. Thus, I went into this album curious about what would be different.
And...I was blown away.
Despite being used to the original frontman, new vocalist Luwandile Prusent was awesome with the energy he brought to the vocals on this album. Vulvodynia has a long history of combining a lot of different vocal styles, from much higher pitched screeching to very low, guttural slam vocals and Prusent absolutely nails it! I will say that I could imagine someone who was looking for more "slam" in their slamcore might be somewhat disappointed, but honestly I felt they were able to integrate slam into the songs very effectively, if not as frequently as in their earlier works.
The features are also pretty great! Some of the best artists in the scene including PeelingFlesh (I love these guys), Bodysnatcher, and Signs of the Swarm come in to deliver some awesome features on tracks.
Overall, I absolutely loved this album and bought tickets for the show in Sydney next week. I'm super excited to see them live and love the direction they are headed! Please check this out if you're looking for some new heavy stuff, you won't regret it.

*Highlight Tracks: “63 skies”/“eight ball”/“sex benefits.5” *Genre: Shoe-gaze/Noise Rock/Drum and Bass
*One of my favorite live albums. It offers a rawer take on some Tagabow songs, and these live versions often feel lot moodier (in the best way possible). It also includes the delightful electronic interludes featured in between songs during their live sets. This record just really displays They are Gutting a Body of Water’s excellence and further solidifies them as one of the most interesting shoe-gaze acts today.
*“63 skies” pummels you into the ground and leaves your chest caved in…I love it so much.

i've recently been coming out of a huuuge depressive slump, and the best thing i did for myself was to start waking up a little bit earlier for work, make myself a yummy coffee, and sit by my big window and read + think for ~20 mins. it boosts my mood soooo much throughout the day and helps me to be so much more mindful
