nowhere - gregg araki. maybe the greatest film to have ever been conceived. ive talked about him on here before but araki is a true auteur and really had his finger on the pulse with this one (and the rest of his teen apocalypse trilogy) in a way ive not seen anyone replicate. came out in ’97 and still informs so much of whats being created and released today. this was on sam levinsons moodboard in the conception stage of the shit show that was euphoria. if uve been sleeping on him nows the time to wake up - he just casted charli xcx in his next feature. my own private idaho - gus van sant. more new queer cinema. totally devastating, the first time i watched this i stayed up the entire night afterwards. i couldnt sleep a wink. was just totally haunted. there will never be another soul like river phoenix </3 le diable probablement - robert bresson. peak french existentialism. the first entry in my own personal just like me fr canon. wont say too much but watch it watch it watch it if you u havent already. came out in ‘77 and hasnt aged at all (i mean it!). chungking express - wong kar wai. a moment of self recognition thru the other. the frequency with which faye wongs character plays california dreaming mirrors in its entirety my own extremely irritating music habits.

first is mulholland drive— a movie that i just adore to my bones. everything about it feels like it captures the contradictions and dream logic of being a human being. next is cassavetes’ opening night— probably the best on screen performance ever given. after a certain point, it felt like I was going through the scenes with gena rowlands. the conformist— beautiful, obscene, strange, kinda sexy? truly unique movie. close-up— never have i ever cried as hard to a movie as i did to this final scene. it makes you question what’s real and isn’t, and then say you don’t care. such a beautiful thing.

was so so sad last night and found myself at the movies. started sobbing the moment i sat in the chair for reasons entirely unrelated to the film (although it was very sad). kind of relished in it though bc the cinema unlike buses/trains/cafes is like the only public space where you wont be scorned for crying. its the only acceptable place outside of the comfort of your home for you to sit down and have a good wail because everyone will think ur crying about the movie and no one will judge u.

a punk rock road movie by gregg araki about a couple that pick up a drifter. weirdness and chaos ensue. impeccable soundtrack and the costuming was waaaay ahead of its time. its like challengers on crack. one of my favourite flicks and was my teenage gateway into cool girl underground films. be warned though it gets pretty violent at times!
