I don’t know where the “it’s impolite to talk about money” thing originated, but I assume it has roots in capitalism. At least now it’s a way to dissuade organizing and unionization while individuals suffer in silence, so talk about it! Talk about your salary at work! Talk about financial stresses with friends! If we’re going to liberate ourselves from systems of oppression, we need the transparency to do so!

I know, boring, but its a special type of freedom to understand what’s happening with ur spending/saving/investing/etc. they (rich ppl) make it dumbhard to understand, but it is possible!! I especially recommend letting a friend that does understand it all give u an hour long lecture where u take notes! just make sure to buy them lunch :-)

Changed my perspective on so much--namely money and history. It's shocking how so much of the mainstream story of where money came from is false conjecture. For instance, we are told that societies start out bartering for goods and then develop money to make trade easier... but actually Graeber shows in no society has bartering ever predated coinage. The actual ways societies have historically dealt with exchange of goods and services are diverse and often more humanistic. Could it be that the mainstream narrative is merely justification for the inevitability of the free market? 🤔 Definitely want to re-read because there's lots more too

Word on the street is that it’s coming. Will you be safe or have you been part of the entrenched systems of inequality? The ostentatious displays of wealth exhibited by many of you benefiting from daddy’s affluence will become a symbolic target for discontent and unite the working class against y’all js 🤭

Here it is, folks! Volume I of what could very well be a continuous project. Thank you so much to everyone that submitted - I smiled the entire time I was putting this together. It's best listened to with headphones ☺️ Liner Notes: This collection of field recordings is a collaborative effort with users of PI.FYI, each of which recorded their own pieces. It features audio from all over the world and exhibits eclectic moments from London Underground commutes to cuckoo bird calls in Dhaka to the sounds of a century-old American diner. Online communities like PI.FYI often represent a diverse set of people, places, and experiences, but together, the submissions form a living collage that highlights the commonalities of modern life - a unifying message for such a tumultuous time. The first track features all of the sounds played at once in an attempt to create an audio snapshot of an online community but in their offline lives. The individual recordings are unedited except for minor gain and compression adjustments for consistency across the collection.
