recently forced myself to make a new fall playlist that essentially eliminated all of the sad songs from my old one. i’ve always been pro music to wallow to, but to my chagrin i’ve seen a drastic improvement in my enjoyment of things—at least the time that i typically spend doing “nothing.” slowly inching towards my idealistic picture of fall…

i’m not sure whether this is a common feeling, but october is one of my favorite months for listening to/discovering music! i associate the season with feelings of reflection & renewal (and if you’re anything like me, maybe a little too much of the former 🥴), and even though some of these picks might not cleanly align with your criteria, they still feel distinctly autumnal to me: ml buch: flames shards goo alex g: in my arms big thief: the only place modest mouse: talking shit about a pretty sunset weyes blood: picture me better bon iver: michicant beth orton: pass in time grouper: the way her hair falls mojave 3: love songs on the radio elliott smith: everything reminds me of her happy (or rather, melancholic?) listening!!

I would live in an eternal summer if I could. Autumn has, year after year, brought me nothing but depression and illness and grief. I hate it when the nights get darker and the weather gets bad. Being cold sucks. I don't care about the "cosy" benefits everyone talks about. I am a certified hater. I made this playlist to try and fix this and it actually kind of works.

stop the stigma, buy a pickle on your commute, eat it on the street, prioritize your joy (the pickle guys $1 pickles on grand st will always come in clutch)

this is probably more nostalgia than the song itself but kate bush’s voice feels appropriate for making someone cry

just crazy good vibes to walk down the street listening to silly dutch guys rapping mediocre lyrics to sick beats (surprisingly hard to not dance along, though i may be biased as i am pro vibing to music in public)
