I met both the bands and got free postcard and stickers, turns out I was standing next to one of the guitarist’s girlfriend and I watched them get into a fight after the set. it was a perfect night.

🎸i just went to my first punk show in my city, since a friend of mine’s band was playing and he invited me. it was at 8pm at a coffee shop, and i felt very out of place at first among these people who are so much more incredibly cool than me. then, the music started, and i realized that i was headbanging just like everyone else. girls asked me to hold their things when they went to mosh, and i helped people up off the floor when they fell in the pit. it was a very unifying experience and i met lots of real weirdos (which i love). highly recommend

i was seeing the legendary midwest emo act Capn Jazz live at The Warsaw last night and told my friend "when they play the Take On Me cover, put me up"
the encore rolls around and they play it- next thing i know im crowd surfing while screaming every word.
i get thrown over the barrier and suddenly im standing next to Tim Kinsella who then forces me to sing the next chorus on the stage in front of everyone
adrenaline took over and next thing i knew i was shouting the chorus. voices cracks and all
never be too cool to crowd surf, mosh in the pit, and lose yourself in the music

🎾this summer, we’re starting yoga, we’re learning a new language (being bilingual is now the standard, you need to know at least three to be truly chic), we’re going to concerts just because the tickets were cheap, we’re going to museums (especially the weird ones), hitting up the local library to ask for new recommendations, whether it’s a surprise or based on past tastes, we’re painting, collecting and collaging, sewing and embroidering our clothes, re-learning the harmonica, playing chess with strangers online and at the café, we’re taking up tennis and pretending it’s not just because of challengers. the only way to find what brings you joy is to try.

I had to go to Greenwood Cemetery for a class last semester, and many famous people like Leonard Bernstein and Jean-Michel Basquiat are buried there, but I stumbled upon this woman’s grave that read “FORTUNATE DESPERATE TRUSTFUL” and I was so upset by the idea of someone putting desperate on my grave that I had to look her up. her name was Eleonora Duse, apparently she was often known as just Duse (so chic), she was an amazing Italian actress, muse, and, importantly, was involved in numerous lesbian love affairs.
I think it’s in many ways much more respectful to learn about the people you pass by, rather than just letting them go on unacknowledged and unknown.
