I saw them live with my best friend, Bean. It was a smaller venue (not the smallest). They played mostly their newer (at the time) songs from the album Pollen, but I recommend going back in time to Cape Dory and making your way through all the albums to Pollen. If you have time and energy to. The single, Marathon, was on apple iTunesā€™ free music thursdays (??? miss it though/was it even thursdays) and little mickey found it and downloaded it in 2012. I donā€™t even think I had an iPod then. But Iā€™ve been listening to them ever since. At the show I went to with Bean, they had a little Q&A and they talked about soulmates (itā€™s a wife and husband duo), how they donā€™t believe in them, but they still think finding each other was fate. Canā€™t recommend this band enough.

Iā€™ve been into this band since 2017 & they inspired me so much back when I was in college. I was also listening to them right around when I was both getting into the concept of ā€œmathyā€ music and going to my local shows in NJ for the first time. One of my most memorable shows was driving one of my newer friends to see Peaer on an autumn, Sunday night in a church recreational space, 40 minutes away on a super rainy night. The venueā€™s parking lot was gravel and next to the churchā€™s graveyard and there was probably 20-25 people total, including the bands. And it was so worth it, hearing Peaer live finally and seeing their musicianship in person. I have a real love for bands that are trios of drums, bass, guitar & vox, how you can hear everyone individually, but also how just 3 people can create such a wall of sound together. It was so important for me to see them live at that age, and Iā€™m so glad I pushed myself to make the drive down there. They havenā€™t come out with music since 2019, an album called A Healthy Earth which I had on repeat religiously. So to have a new single from them with that same guitar tone, funky time changes but new formulas and ideas has been incredibly lovely. Iā€™m thankful theyā€™re still around and continuing to create šŸ

speaking of solo concerts, i went to The Beths last night for the second time this year and wow, they are truly one of my favorite bands ever. Australian indie rock band with an incredible show both times. tight tight TIGHT band. danced my shit off, incredible guitar lines, the whole band sings backup vocals while they play, itā€™s unreal. feels like driving 95 down a highway or running as fast as you can until you fall straight into a body of water. feels like the most charming and poignant ways to sing about a breakup. feels like I LOVE LIVE MUSIC!!! ran into a friend at the show who told me they found The Beths through a playlist i made and got hooked. made my night. maybe you will be next

Last night i saw one of my favorite bands, the teeth live for one of their reunion shows in philly. One of the best shows i have ever been to they are just so damn tight. Perfect pop songs and so much energy. They are everything i aspire to. Carry the wood is my favorite album , but theyre one of those bands where I think everything they do is amazing.

Zines (yes they are pronounced zeens, like the end of magazines) are independently published works. The simplest format to make them from is from instant zines, made from one piece of paper, folded a few times, and cut only once. I made my first zine in college and through my major (printmaking) I met some upperclassmen who ran zine club. A group where we collaborated, collected, and made zines together. I learned a lot from making zines and helping run zine workshops and running a zoom class during quarantine. And during quarantine again, finding an online zine club where we would make zines and just bitch about life. Anyone can make a zine, just like anyone can make art. They can be just about anything. They can be made from any format, they can be printed or drawn any way. They donā€™t have to be perfect, but they are the perfect vessel to get your thoughts, feelings, and art out into the world or to just keep it to yourself. (Linked is brattyxbreā€™s YouTube channel with tutorials, history of zines, and art. Pictured is my personal zine library which is my most cherished collection)

This is probably one of my favorite movies. Itā€™s also awful. With a stacked cast of Kate Hudson, Matthew McConaughey, Kevin Hart, Donald Sutherland, it might make you wonder, why the fuck havenā€™t you heard of it. Well it sucks. Itā€™s like watching reality TV, a car crash you canā€˜t take your eyes off of. Itā€™s somehow bad but in a really good way. Bad in a way where you could see how it could have been good but itā€™s not disappointing the way it turned out. I love this movie. If youā€™re looking for a good, bad time, I recommend it.

I got a lot of food allergies. But this one I can have. Itā€™s creamy (with no dairy), and pesto-y (with no alliums if you donā€™t want to add ā€™em). My fav recipe got taken down so I added this one which is similar if not the same. I recommend adding 2 TBS of unfortified nutritional yeast and maybe some chicken as your protein. But holy frick is it SO good. (pictured: lost recipe from a site no longer up)
