it's fun, it's interesting, it's exploratory, I've done it for a very long time and am better at it than most (esp. that Pissed Jeans guy) https://heathendis.co -- publishing twice weekly to your inbox go sign up

I run a zine where I just write about stuff I like. A lot of it is music focused but I really write about whatever feels relevant at the moment. I just published one where I interviewed a local Portland band so if that interests you, you should for sure check it out.

fav substack I’m subscribed too!! a monthly newsletter focused on a more mindful connection to music, highlighting albums in their entirety. (mb I’m biased bc it’s written by my gf but hear me out…) always great writing, huge genre range, and i always find a couple new artists I have yet to delve deep with. I’ve fallen victim to mindlessly consuming my Spotify algorithm which means I’m pretty disconnected with most artists and albums. Music Baby gets me excited to dive into a full album & check out musicians in their entirety! ♥

Not all are great and you gotta deal with some real dregs, but what a rush.

https://breathers.bandcamp.com/album/designed-to-break https://thehecksdotcom.bandcamp.com/album/my-star These bands likely didn’t know each other but they have a very specific, future-forward-from-the-past aesthetic that shines on both of these albums. Breathers are maybe more arcane and really floor the FM synth lane nobody wants to be in, and The Hecks are a little more muscular and referential. Both are weird, memorable, nervous, overlooked albums.
