a truly amazing and underrated channel making vibey playlists (and sometimes video essays) on classic videogame music. he doesn’t just have the music, either - he typically puts the music in historical context and sometimes also has an interview with the composers. it’s honestly so wholesome because the people who scored the childhoods of thousands of people throughout the 1990s usually had no idea that their work would have such wide impact - sometimes getting the interview call from gst is the first indication they’ve ever had that they had any impact at all. he’s so thorough and thoughtful

Love the vibes of this channel. My favorite series of his is the “Unremarkable and Odd Places in ___”. He basically finds liminal space type places in popular video games and shows them off, and then muses about life for a while. As someone who barely plays video games, I still find the videos entertaining and oddly comforting. Overall it’s a very chill time.

I just found 'Album Affairs' on YT because of their Boards of Canada video. They did a really good job explaining the nostalgic love for this band from people like myself. His voice is super chill, and has a lot more videos for other musicians too!

I never understood the appeal of watching let's plays but I'll make an exception for gaming archeology. Seeing these silly, dated games be played is fun. But the video is really an ode to web 1.0—freeware, personal websites, and creativity.

spent the last two weeks working on an interactive guide, recommendations database, and digital library (link depot) to help get people off of social media. the first draft is done now, and it's at the link to this post. it's still very much a work in progress (the library is especially thin atm) - which is why i wanted to share it here before unleashing it upon my IRL friends and the general public. i welcome any and all feedback, bug reports, and suggestions for things to add. i will be pushing updates to it out like a madman in the coming weeks, so be sure to check back every so often to see new additions to the database and library. additionally, i am still on the hunt for newsletters from local venues / community organizations / magazines / newspapers, etc. the only cities i have remotely covered so far are nyc, orlando, denver, brisbane, and little bits of worcester and chicago. if you know anything in your area that fits the bill, send it my way!
