The show was incredible, and they were super nice and gave us a bunch of free stuff for coming all that way. A very "it's totally great to meet your heroes, just don't pick shitty ones" moment. We also got to hang around the town of Flint during their Pride festival and met a bunch of awesome community members. A very different town than the media painted it over the course of the water crisis there.

Back in 2016, Bear Vs. Shark announced a reunion show at Local 432 in Flint, so my brother and I drove there from Boston to see it. All of the news coverage about the water crisis leading up to that point had painted the place as a dystopian wasteland, but that couldn't have been more inaccurate. Like a lot of cities and towns in the Rust Belt, there was such a deep sense of community there along with the scrappy optimism of building something new amidst the relics of bygone industry. In the short time we were there, we got to meet the dudes in the band (who were so wonderful), went to the Flint Pride parade, and met some small business owners. The whole experience was a testament to the resilience and strength of community despite overwhelming hardship.

Of course two of my favorite live show experiences - Classic City Wrestling and DBT Heathen Homecoming - can be combined to make something INCREDIBLE.

Here it is, folks! Volume I of what could very well be a continuous project. Thank you so much to everyone that submitted - I smiled the entire time I was putting this together. It's best listened to with headphones ☺️ Liner Notes: This collection of field recordings is a collaborative effort with users of PI.FYI, each of which recorded their own pieces. It features audio from all over the world and exhibits eclectic moments from London Underground commutes to cuckoo bird calls in Dhaka to the sounds of a century-old American diner. Online communities like PI.FYI often represent a diverse set of people, places, and experiences, but together, the submissions form a living collage that highlights the commonalities of modern life - a unifying message for such a tumultuous time. The first track features all of the sounds played at once in an attempt to create an audio snapshot of an online community but in their offline lives. The individual recordings are unedited except for minor gain and compression adjustments for consistency across the collection.
