I feel like the “one brand for the rest of your life” part of the ask is being overlooked. Sure, for work and day-to-day stuff a lot of brands cover those bases. But what about wedding attire? What about any sort of suiting? All seasons? Something you can wear today and still want to wear in ten, twenty, thirty years? There’s a long term strategic game to consider. For luxury it’s easy to go for whatever is hyper popular now, but you’ll look silly wearing some of these brands in your 70’s. Think timeless and versatile, think about the collabs the brand does that cross into other life tasks. I think Drakes is one of the best at hitting every single season, every situation. The other only answer I can think of that might not fall under typical luxury is Ralph Lauren with the massive umbrella of sub-brands.

Unrelated, but every time I see the Drake's lookbook with people hanging out, I immediately text my friends if they want to hang out.

hinh They’ve done such a great job at getting their brand to be associated with community and friendship. You see a lookbook and long to know that many people!

i feel like drakes makes perfect classic well made white guy shit just really disagree with how their clothes proportion most people’s bodies kinda can make you look shaped like a dorito if you don’t have the right body

shegoestoanotherschool well the Canal Street staff is different skin tones & genders & body shapes and they all look great, the generalization there doesn’t seem fair / a little off-kiltered imo. Unfortunately to wear certain brands you have to adhere to some type of rulebook to look good, which most people don’t consider. When I bought a coat there I went and got measured and they asked me what I’d be wearing it with, how I liked things to fit, and then they ultimately guided me to what looked best. They nailed it! In today‘s era where sizing and measurements don’t really seem to matter, yeah a guy who orders off their site is going to look silly. Their lookbooks (if you look through them all) have a range of body types and they all look great. Just takes some extra work to look good in some of these brands where their products are meant to look and fit a certain way.

marianoleonczik not to say anyone can’t wear it just speaking to the silhouettes as classic white guy shit because it is basically really nice stuffy clothes that you can dress up or down more if you have the juice, and re: the fits yeah it works with a tailor as do most things but the tops fit slim + long & the bottoms fit slim as well so it’s just a cleaner fit with some body types compared to others. less about drakes more that i wish men’s clothes weren’t generally all cut that way

shegoestoanotherschool yeah their pants are too tapered in general, I wish they'd come out with a proper straight cut. I do think the shirts are also slimmer and longer than they should be, but maybe that's just me because I'm short and not especially thin. I need to go up a neck size or two with their shirts. But I follow them for lookbook styling, and I can't really talk shit about that.

tbh when i do buy anything it’s an agonising process of hunting down either a very specific item or an item that fits a very specific way that i’m after. i move a lot so owning things is a big deal to me, i don’t buy anything i dont see myself keeping for a while and sell things i don’t use regularly. i also make some of my clothes so there’s that
but i’d say aside from specific vintage stuff some of my fav new brands to shop are our legacy, gildan, everybody.world, fadepants before i worked there, morjas, uniqlo u the 2 times it drops a year, and supreme
brands i like their clothes and might buy more in another financial situation but don’t shop much/at all are lemaire, connor mcknight (esp the outerwear), stussy (some of the best and most attainable styling for sure), studio nicholson, lyle mcgraw, orée nyc, horatio london, and nike/jordan

I finally have money for clothes and want to buy some pieces that are sturdy and will withstand the test of time. I just need like staple pieces of clothing that won’t distress as much but I‘m into more unique shapes and it’s proving hard to find the two in one. I dress more masculine but I will take any suggestions 😀

I feel like there’s a special connectivity on this app that I haven’t felt in a long time, maybe since early 2010’s tumblr. The fact that you can’t promote yourself like IG is wonderful. The fact that there isn’t mass video content like Tik Tok is great. It’s not this monetized / paid sponsorship app. People are here because they want to be a part of something with nothing to gain besides friendship. Seeing the URL -> IRL meetups warms my heart so much (waiting for an NYC or Brooklyn meetup).
Thanks for your participation on this niche little app. I smile reading all the recs and all the comments and all the asks. Hope we’ll all be here for a long time.

florinegrassenhopper riotgrrrl brendanooooo slowdazzle buck_mcgraw and indianjones — we did it. Not only did we successfully meet for drinks, but we also schemed the hostile takeover of this app from tyler tonight.
In all seriousness — weird that an app I downloaded in April would make genuinely want to drive back into Brooklyn during end of day traffic for a happy hour. Great app filled with great people.

I think a life rule for me is to surround myself with people who know more / are smarter / are cooler than me and just absorb their aura by listening / observing them. It’s made me the incredibly smart / cool person you all know and love. I just never thought I’d feel the same way about URL friends. I’m constantly listening to the songs I see posted here, reading the articles, subbing to newsletters, and googling topics that get tossed onto the feed. It’s nice to know you can become a more rounded person by just absorbing what your mutuals post on here. I’m going to sit on my couch, have a cocktail and digest my lovely feed. Happy Sunday!
