You know this book was written by a designer because it’s full of typos. An especially good read for designers, but I really enjoyed it as a writer, too.

I’ve seen these annual digests of the best in product innovation around forever but only started buying them recently. I grabbed one at a place in LA that had loads of dusty design books on the cheap. Not long after that, I went to a Housing Works on the UES because someone on TikTok said it had the best clothing selection. It didn’t, but they did have 2 of these for $10 each. They’re pure cheat code. Every good idea that’s being ripped off by contemporary artisans is in one of these - lamps bent into unnatural shapes, shelves that don’t look like they hold very much, dinnerware that you’d never dare eat off of. The designs are Italian and Japanese, of course, but also Finnish, Canadian, Spanish, even American. Each edition has a different luminary as an editor: Arata Isozaki, Mario Bellini, Philippe Starck, freakin’ Alessandro Mendini. They’re tidy, portable museums.

definitely not! Speaking from personal experience - I went from totally fucking off (working like 10hrs a week) to working as a carpenter for years. Then I got interested in random shit online and made the leap from carpentry to working in marketing/jack of all trades for tech experiments and companies. I was 25 when I made the leap from carpentry to what I do now. I had no clue what the fuck was going to happen. I just felt like it was the right leap to make.

too many people think they're too cool to really tell someone you FUCK WITH THE VISION. like give and let that person know you think what they do is sick. As a kid, you know you remember how big it was to catch a compliment especially when it came to expressing yourself. be a fan. be corny. be genuine. be in the moment
being open to seeing the small details and beauties of everyday life. I feel like trying to remind myself to view the world this way has helped with both happiness and creativity. The world is filled with immense emotion and to be able to feel that is beautiful
