I have tried almost every hair length, quite literally, as I have shaved my head. However there is one length I haven’t worn yet, and that’s ultra long. I attribute this to stylists wanting to cut off the “dead ends” and “clean it up.” When your hair reaches a certain length it grows at a slower rate, so eventually that 1 inch trim just eradicates any progress made since the last salon visit. I’m over it. I don’t want to look cleaned-up. I want to look as ancient as I feel. I want to conjure the image my ancestors. I want every strand of hair to tell the story of all the things I have seen, felt, and carried with me, until it all turns white, at which point the children will gather around at my feet, and pull at my skirt for a story or a song, some magic. Unmanicured and unmasked, let my hair be a reminder to myself that no matter what society has made of me, I am still wild and free.

There is no higher high than spontaneously deciding to take a pair of dirty kitchen shears to a finger sectioned chunk of hair that you’re hastily holding between your eyes and just blindly cutting off an inch while your Uber driver waits for you outside. My motto is “how bad could it look?” Let go, let god. I’m so impatient when it comes to my appearance. You think I’m waiting for a professional to cut this hair when I literally need it cut right this moment or else I’ll die? No. Paying for a haircut might be a scam I’ve decided.

maybe a hot take but as long as you can practice some restraint, maintaing a haircut yourself is pretty satisfying. And low key I think I know my hair better than any hairdresser and I have had many dark years with horrible haircuts so I’m going to give my ends a little snip snip refresh every few weeks

I don't trust anyone to cut my hair. I've had too many freaky haircut experiences, so I've taken matters into my own hands. And then if I mess up I'm the only one to blame. I usually end up cutting my hair after a breakup or when I'm bored. I almost always hate it at first, but that's part of the journey. I've been cutting my hair shorter and shorter recently. Bobs are in baby!!

My grandma’s word for word response when I asked her if she had any advice for living a long life. She lived to be 99 years old. Rest in Paradise Donna.

I am obsessed with this Art Deco Extraordinaire, a Polish-born painter whose glamorous figurative compositions came to life in 1920s-30s Paris. Influenced by Cubism and Neoclassicism, her works—especially her portraits of women—blend beauty, strength, modernity, and a timeless cosmopolitan flair. After leaving Paris, she continued her career in New York, Hollywood, and Mexico. Now on view is her first American retrospective at the de Young Museum in San Francisco until February 9th.

I've been doing a lot of live drawings at shows, this one is of Juvenile and Mannie Fresh when they played at Brooklyn Bowl to celebrate the 25th anniversary of "Back That Azz Up." They had a live band with them and the energy was so hype! His son messaged me "My dad love the painting" and got my email so I'm hoping this ends up in his house one day :) Musicians are my main muses. I sell the drawings as fine art prints and because they are ink on paper, the replicas look pretty identical to the OGs. Live drawing is a practice I've devoted myself to out of not having a studio and living out of a storage unit and it's made me brave and remember that MFA degree and Art World aside, art is about curiosity, creativity, openess, innovation, and being present to the beauty in front of you. It is the conscious action to make marks, to trust the ancient technology embeded in our bodies, to allow a picture to reveal itself, and connect to some kind of truth on the daily.
