quality AC, amazing art, some are close to parks so if it’s not in the 90s you could take a little mid-day stroll, and there’s enough museum options that regardless of your interests won’t be bored. some museums are open even later on specific days so you might be able to continue into the evening!

museums are a great way to have a vacation destination outside of the neighborhood your hotel is in. for manhattan: the met museum and the guggenheim are great picks for the upper east side. if you want to go up into harlem i recommend el museo del barrio, which is smaller and dedicated to latin american artists. the museum of modern art is a great midtown museum, and the whitney museum is a great destination to explore the west village (get lost in the west village!). i don't have art museum picks for the upper west side, but the museum of natural history and lincoln center are great places to visit. brooklyn: a visit to the brooklyn museum is great, especially when paired with a visit to prospect park or the brooklyn botanical garden. queens: moma ps1 and the noguchi museum are great picks! pair any of these with a dinner reservation and your mom will love you.

I’ve been going to this museum ever since I moved to New York. It’s a perfect hidden gem for any history nerds who want a slightly less crowded museum experience on the upper east side. The permanent collection is thorough but not overwhelming and you can get through it in a few hours (I personally hate being in huge museums where I get stressed by the amount of rooms/options). And despite being a history museum, it offers a modern and interactive experience and isn’t dusty!!

Bonus points if it’s a museum in close proximity to a park so you can have a leisurely walk to get hungry for dinner

being traditionally cool is really quite boring and iterative, and it’s actually very cool and sexy to geek out about something you like or share bits of knowledge on a topic you’re passionate about

i had it for a little over a year until i was like wow this is actually terrible! i genuinely think it has negatively impacted society by ruining people’s attention spans, having a horrific algorithm, and most of all by the most mind-numbing or outright harmful trends - fake words that people now use IRL (ā€œunaliveā€), trad wife tiktok, shein hauls, body-focused fitness vids that encourage fatphobia and unhealthy habits, shallow political/feminist theory and queer discourse, ā€œalpha maleā€ podcaster tiktok, encouraging overconsumption in general, trends ruining local spots or niche things… the list goes on
