Elliott’s songs, listening to them from the remove of this many years since his passing, always sound vaguely pissed and pointed to me. Passive aggressive attack vehicles. (Don’t get me wrong I šŸ’™ them). But Julien (one third of boygenius) sounds sad and regretful instead. What an absolutely gorgeous cover. I am clearly fond of wounded female vox taking on ā€œdamaged bad at bestā€ indie boy rock, huh? šŸ¤”

Kitty the Fool does "sad" like so few other people can. It's that little crease in her voice that tells you she's had her heart broken a time or three. (To be fair, she took years away from music to deal with depression so it's all quite real). Her new covers album is extraordinary (from R.E.M. to Supertramp to Springsteen and a duet with Jason Isbell, who also does "sad" pretty damn well). Highly rec'd etc.

First off, Lianne La Havas’ cover is also one of my favorites ever Some standouts (songs that I previously thought were too good to be touched until I heard these): The Fool on the Hill - Sergio Mendes & Brasil ā€˜66 (The Beatles) I Go To Sleep - Anika (Ray Davies/The Kinks) Tempted - Erykah Badu/James Poyser (Squeeze) Hybrid Moments - Helvetia (Misfits) Perfect - MJ Lendermen/Wednesday (Smashing Pumpkins)

Hey tyler hopefully this doesn’t violate some PI.FYI golden rule But after nearly two years of writing, editing and arguing, my book about the EP is coming out in May and can be preordered here: https://hozacrecords.com/product/aifl/ The book is about the origins, history and cultural impact of the EP since these little objects first started coming out in the 50s. Over 50 of my music biz friends then helped me shape the list and review the top 200 ever released, according to us (ha). For those of you who are into this kind of geekery/snobbery, I can’t wait to hear what you think. A labor of love, as all books are! ā¤ļø
