Legally my first name is Sophiaā¦ but as a child I didnāt really learn phonetics (bc I was impatient and taught Myself how to read lol) So I had no real concept of the ph sound and thought it was dumb. So I said no I am not sopuhee, I am Sofe. And it stuck. Plus I think Sofe Cote has a good ring to itā¦ my mother wanted to make me Anya. If I had to name me from the start, I would say maybe Dido. If I was a boy, Roland.

I didnāt have a nickname growing up, but my sisterās middle name is Sophia and all my uncles called her Couch because Sophia sounds like sofa

šnever liked my name growing up because most of elementary school was spent in florida. it was a huge culture shock coming from the north then being one of like two or three kids of color in my class at any given time. i wanted a stereotypical āwhite girl nameā with a middle name like marie or rose. spent a lot of middle school going by daisy.
i also am greatly tired of the ādeja vuā jokes.
my mom got my name from tyra bankās character in āhigher learningā/a tony! toni! tonĆ©! song. i guess thatās cool. she just spelled it very phonetically, which didnt help peopleās mispronunciation of my easy name but (to me) looks very dumbed down on paper (day-JAH) and then people pronounce the j really hard idk.
most of my friends call me day āļø i like that at least. i wouldn't have minded the name raven, and i think my momās other name contender was tia (like sister sister) but that would have kind of rhymed with my last name so im good on that.

šin kindergarten i hated my name cuz it wasnāt āordinaryā but by 3rd grade i learned thatās BOOORING (people called me weird, like thats an insult??)
i couldnāt imagine myself with another name but i do wish i had nicknames. sometimes people call me sagey but thatās a rare occasion
i was named sage because of female empowerment š«¶š» sage = wise not just an herb ya smelly bastards

Gazpacho only in the late summer, persimmons only in the winter, etc. just because we can import anything from anywhere anytime doesnāt mean we should. Nothing is special if you can have it whenever you want it.
