I live in a small city north of Boston, which seems to be carpeted with more litter & detritus than anywhere I’ve seen. I find this fascinating & annoying - are you listening at City Hall??!!?? NO TRASH CANS! What ends up on the ground & why? Things that are discarded, passed over, seen but not seen…we living in a space littered, literally, with ’things’ that have been haphazardly shed. Why has that sofa bed (or whatever it is) been left to sit out on the sidewalk for weeks? Is this attitude about litter/trash a kind of complacency, a sign of defeat, or a passive aggressive F/Y to a city government that puts SIX trash cans in front of City Hall but none in my neighborhood or the commercial main drag? I have seen people put their empty Dunks cups in a discarded Heineken 12 pack rather than throw it on the ground, so I do honestly think they’d use a trash can if they were provided by the City. Why is this carpet of crud somehow ok with the powers that be? This is a quality of life issue. What do you spend your time actually DOING at Cit’s Council meetings? Is this some sort of reverse NIMBY syndrome? You don’t have to walk around sidewalks & gutters filled with crap every day so you don’t have to concern yourself with it? Who & what are getting ‘tossed aside’ here? Out of sight is not out of mind for those of us who inhabit neighborhoods filled with this detritus of daily life. Have people just given up in the face of this tsunami of trash? Tell me what you think? What’s your experience where you live? I’m off with my iPhone to photograph more…crap.

My dad always tells me to take a lot of photos of things that may seem mundane to me today -> i.e the streets I walk on often, or the front of the coffee shops I always go to.
Simply because it’ll be nice to look back on, and the film is cheap (bc it’s an iPhone).
