My dad always tells me to take a lot of photos of things that may seem mundane to me today -> i.e the streets I walk on often, or the front of the coffee shops I always go to. Simply because it’ll be nice to look back on, and the film is cheap (bc it’s an iPhone).

My dad is the same way so my childhood is like extensively and obsessively documented in photos, tens of thousands of them. I started taking his cameras and using them to take pictures of everything and anything that caught my eye or that I thought was interesting whether that was places, plants, animals, people, or random objects. I don’t really have a camera that I use now (i do have a shitty point and shoot languishing in a case somewhere) and i should probably get back on that as a hobby but I always make sure to get iPhone models with a zoom lens when it’s time to upgrade and I continue that habit of just snapping photos of everything that piques my interest and they’re automatically backed up to my Google Photos library!

Without sounding like a bitter luddite, I miss the days of people capturing moments for the sake of remembering, not sharing with strangers. We all have childhood VHS footage and disposable photos of seemingly mundane moments at family BBQs, birthday parties, vacations, etc, but in the iPhone age most of our photos are taken with the intention of posting. This is a crucial difference, for me at least, so I recommend getting a camera not because it takes better photos than your phone, but because it'll remind you to capture more regular slices of life.

ive always loved taking pictures of random things, “in the moment.” pretty sunset, the way the light filters in through my grandmas back door. i feel like film catches depth and detail in a way that phone cameras cant :)

Shoot! Sorry I missed your call, I’m in moon mode.

If you’re within an hour walk from home, you should just walk home. I understand taking public transit or an Uber there to be on time, but you’re not rushing to get home. Thus, walk.
