At my new house in LA, there's a fig tree, and as I was researching about it, I discovered that in the growing process of figs, they rely on fig wasps. The relationship between the fig and the wasp is fascinating. Fig wasps are tiny insects that play a crucial role in the pollination of fig trees. Female fig wasps enter the fig fruit through a natural opening called the ostiole to lay their eggs. In the process, they inadvertently pollinate the flowers inside the fig. The fig tree provides a safe haven and nourishment for the wasp larvae to develop, while the wasp ensures the fig tree's reproduction by transferring pollen between figs. Who knew that! And the fig wasp looks so cute!

Also the wasp gets stuck in the fig because her wings fall off and dies there and the fig’s enzymes decompose the wasp within the fig. if it’s a male fig she cannot lay eggs and just dies.

Pretty sick, went with a friend and it was very funny. $14 Movie Theater IPAs were hitting in a fantastic way. Then we went to see the second half of the Knicks game in some dive in the Village. It was a great time, stumbled on the escalator in front of strangers. 10/10

I have another indie theater that I prefer because it’s cozier, has better vibes, is much closer to me, and everybody who works there is genuinely passionate about film. It’s not really anything special visually but it’s a beautiful institution and it’s so fun to be there ❤️ But this one is an old art deco theatre designed by architect John Eberson (he designed Loew’s Paradise in the Bronx and the Paradise Theatre in Chicago)! It’s pretty run down/poorly managed and staffed but it’s a gorgeous building and definitely worth visiting. Not my photos but included for illustrative purposes!!

Akihiro Miwa is a well-known Japanese artist famous for her yellow hair and voice work for Hayao Miyazaki's movies. She's 88 years old and survived the Nagasaki Bombing when she was 10 years old. She started singing at 16 in a Chanson bar called Ginpari in Ginza. Besides her art, she's into spiritual stuff and has been hosting a radio show since 2003. I've always been a big fan of her, and lately, I've been hooked on her radio show podcasts. In Japan, they say having Akihiro Miwa's picture on your wallpaper can bring you good luck. She’s a big spiritual icon.

I've recently moved to LA from Japan, and due to the dry air here, I've been experimenting with various ways to protect my skin. I discovered that eating rice is beneficial for the skin, especially porridge, as it retains moisture from the rice, providing hydration from within. It's also good for digestion. I like to add Umeboshi, a pickled plum, which is great to eat in the morning due to its probiotics and amino acids.

Department H is a legendary fetish party in Tokyo that started in 1994. You will see many things like old men waiting to get stepped on or whipped by a dominatrix, Shibari masters, Latex gang, naked person on leashes, and more. I talked with one of the drag queens at the party, and she explained that most of the people at the party work as salarymen or office workers. It's fascinating to me to know that this world exists, and everyone has a different way of finding happiness. It excites me!
