i also visited this v lovely japanese homeware store in chicago called five elements home and they have these adorable cube candles that you can place on a dish or in a vessel of your choosing also a ton of very beautiful incense if you’re into that! bc a nice incense holder provides sort of the same activation of space as a candle

Good, Smokeless incense

Any luckily, my favorite local spot has an online store :~)
Awaji Island Koh-shi Japanese Incense Fragrant Olive, Coffee, Lavender, and Indian Ink are my personal favorites but you truly can't go wrong with any of these.
Awaji Island Washi Paper Incense Light up a lil strip of Sage and your day will instantly improve.
Kurashi no Kaori Japanese Fragrance Candle Not incense but: the best candle I've ever purchased! Huge! Tea and Daphne are i n c r e d i b l e.

MAAPS Incense

My partner at 3sixteen, Johan, started an incense company together with his wife a few years ago and it really changed my perspective on what incense could be. I was so accustomed to the super cheap and piercing smell that comes with bodega Nag Champa that I had no idea that premium incense could smell so much richer and complex. These are a godsend for when you’re stuck working from home for months at a time. My favorites are Knoll, Savannah and Velo but I haven’t been mad at any of the other ones that I’ve tried.
